About

Who is this mysterious Siren?

Siren

The Siren, better known perhaps as Kara Veronica, is an aspiring YA author who currently resides in remote and beautiful Jasper, AB. She splits her time between work and writing (Though they have been known to overlap) and uses every excuse she can find to explore and adventure in the beautiful town she now calls home.
Kara is currently busy working on the preliminary stages of her debute novel, tentatively titled Midguard.

The History

Born just outside Toronto and raised in Ottawa, I fell in love with books before I even made it to Kindergarten, and have not been found without one close at hand since.

The highlight of my Elementary school years was the `publishing` program our school set up to inspire creativity in its students - encouraging them to read and write, and then binding their short stories so they could have them forever. (I wrote 3... I still have them all.)

In high school, my love for writing only grew, and I took technology classes and English classes, aiming for a Creative Writing degree in University. I had a number of opportunities to write my own works for class and grading, and was rewarded with three very different proposal ideas - all shelved for now.

I spent my 3-year University career at a small University called Trent, in Peterborough, Ontario, where I majored in Classical Literature and Drama, and fell in love with Greek mythology all over again. I never finished my degree - opting for the `self-discovery`path instead, but I`ve promised myself to never stop learning and researching, and am still very passionate about mythology.

After changing my mind on what I planned to do with my life, I decided the best way to get things started was by making a big change, and doing something drastic. So, I started to research another thing I loved - travel and tourism, and applied for a Hotel Job in Jasper. A few weeks later, I was packing up everything I could carry and trying to stuff one of my dogs in a suitcase, and flying across the country to start my first truly solo adventure. The dog, sadly, did not accompany me.

While it`s hard at times, the move has to be the best decision I`ve ever made. It`s taught me a lot - mainly who my true friends are, and who I really am - and I`m happy to say it`s not an adventure I want to end any time soon.
